Christian burial (Procedures And Requirements)
Honouring the Departed with Dignity and Faith
Christian burial is a sacred and solemn rite in the Catholic Church, providing a final farewell to our departed loved ones while affirming our belief in the resurrection and eternal life promised by Jesus Christ. At CKC Umuezigwe Parish, we offer support, guidance, and pastoral care to families as they navigate the process of laying their loved ones to rest in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic faith.
Procedures for Christian Burial
Notification: When a parishioner passes away or a family member seeks a Christian burial for their loved one, they should contact the parish office as soon as possible to notify the clergy and begin making arrangements.
Meeting with Clergy: A member of the clergy will meet with the family to offer condolences, provide spiritual support, and discuss the details of the funeral liturgy and burial.
Funeral Planning: The family will work with the parish staff to plan the funeral liturgy, including selecting scripture readings, hymns, prayers, and other elements of the Mass or funeral service.
Vigil and Funeral Mass: The funeral liturgy typically includes a vigil service, where family and friends gather to pray for the deceased, and a funeral Mass or service, where the deceased is commended to God's mercy and the hope of resurrection is proclaimed. (Arrangements can be made with the priest}
Burial Rites: Following the funeral liturgy, the deceased is laid to rest in a grave, accompanied by prayers and blessings from the clergy and mourners.
